Edgel Vinson
asked me to go to Jesus Camp with her. I was so excited when my mom said I
could go! She warned me that it was going to be scorching hot, but I said I didn’t
care. Her statement was true! Edgel, Gabriela, and I were the ones working at
the craft shack. We had prepared for it by getting together about a month
before and making duct tape creations.
It was the
morning we were leaving and I was awake as fast as I possibly could be. I got
ready, put my bags by the door, and waited. We were almost ready to leave, but we just had
to get her jewelry in the car (we were making jewelry too). I got in the
passenger’s seat and we headed off.
When we got
there, we got our beds ready and took our clothes and personal items out of
her car. Then we headed over to the craft shack. It took us until lunch time to
get all of the craft projects set up! After lunch it was time for the campers
to come. Following that was a humid and sweaty afternoon in the craft shack,
but we got to go swimming in the cool lake later. The bottom of the lake was
mushy and murky, and there was seaweed! It was like the seaweed was wrapping
itself around my legs!
One night after another hard day at camp, one
of the other ladies had brought chocolate almond ice cream. We went out and ate
it in the camp’s enormous, cold fridge. It felt amazing compared to the usual humid
and sweaty environment! Afterwards, we went down to the dock and looked at the
stars. They looked like jewels on a big ink blot! We found a few constellations
like the little dipper. We also talked a little. That was my favorite time at
Jesus Camp!
It was
almost time to go home. The Hawaiian chicken for dinner on the last day of camp
was delicious! We packed up our bedding and art supplies, and headed for the
car. I had a great time, but was ready to see my precious puppy again. My
parents came to get me at Edgel’s house. I was exhausted. I had a lot of
fun and sweat that week. It is one experience I will never forget!
